After coming out sluggish to start the game, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (1-1) looked much improved in a 35-14 victory over the Liberty Flames (0-2) thanks to an outstanding performance from Cajun backs Trey Ragas and Raymond Calais each putting up over 100 yards on the ground.
How It Happened
Liberty came out the gates strong with an eight-play drive with Stephen Calvert leading the offense down the field and getting on the board with a 12-yard pass to DJ Stubbs. After two missed field goals by Stevie Artigue, the Cajuns finally got on the board when Levi Lewis high-stepped into the endzone from 19 yards out to tie things up late in the first quarter.
Frankie Hickson gave the Flames a 14-7 lead with a monster 66-yard run. However, Trey Ragas blazed down the field with a 75-yard touchdown run to tie things up. The Cajuns took the lead for the first time late in the first half with an eight-play drive that was capped off by a two-yard pass to Ja’Marcus Bradley.
The second half started out on a strong note with Lewis finding Bradley again with a 58-yard touchdown pass thanks to some nifty moves. Louisiana finished the job with a 12-play drive later in the third quarter that was capped off by a one-yard run from Elijah Mitchell to make it 35-14.
