The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns women’s basketball team received a lot of preseason love from the Sun Belt Conference, being pegged to finish second in the West division and fourth overall.
The Ragin’ Cajuns tallied 111 points in the poll, trailing preseason favorites Troy (140), UT Arlington (115) and South Alabama (112). The four programs took all of the first-place votes, with the Trojans claiming nine of the possible 12 votes and the other three school’s claiming one each. It’s a big jump for Garry Brodhead’s Cajuns who were tabbed to finish eighth in the division just a year ago.
On Wednesday, senior Ty’Reona Doucet and junior Brandi Williams were both selected to Preseason All-Conference Teams.
Doucet was one of five players tabbed on the First Team, while Williams earned a spot on the league’s Third Team. Louisiana joins South Alabama, Troy and UT Arlington as the only programs in the league to have at least two players tabbed on the preseason teams.
