The first game for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns in the Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament was definitely an interesting one with Georgia State taking control early on in the ballgame. The Cajuns didn’t give up though and hung on to come away with a 2-1 victory over the Panthers.
How It Happened
The Panthers got on the board in the top of the second with a two-out RBI single to third base by Remington Hasty to get Skylar Mosel home safely.
Jolie Readeaux tied things up in the bottom of the sixth with a one-out RBI single to right center field. As the seventh inning progressed, it looked like this game was going to be headed into extra innings. However, Louisiana put together a two-out rally capped off by a fielder’s choice from the bat of Alissa Dalton managed to get Kelli Martinez home safely to give them a 2-1 win.
Summer Ellyson got her 20th win of the season allowing one run off of six hits and struck out five in a complete game effort.
Big Number: 20
20 wins is always a big deal and when you look at a good chunk of those wins, it’s even more of a testament to how good Ellyson has been all season
Player of the Game: Kelli Martinez
Martinez was definitely a big catalyst for the Cajuns offense getting kickstarted, getting two hits and was walked twice on the afternoon.
Next Up: Texas State; First Pitch at 11 a.m.
