Saturday’s 5-1 win for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (28-20, 14-9 Sun Belt) was far from conventional, but it gave them their fifth straight Sun Belt series win over Coastal Carolina (31-16, 17-6 Sun Belt).
How It Happened:
The Chanticleers got out in front early on with Zach Biermann hitting a sac fly out to left field, scoring Cory Wood. The Cajuns finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with Gavin Bourgeois getting a sac fly of his own to score Daniel Lahare.
Zach LaFleur got them out in front in the fifth with a sac bunt to score Kennon Fontenot and he reached on a throwing error by Jason Bilous. Later in the inning, Jonathan Windham got LaFleur home safely with a sac fly out to right field to go up 3-1.
The Cajuns capitalized on another error in the sixth when Lahare scored off of a fielding error by the Chanticleers first baseman to make it 4-1. Tyler Stover closed the door in the seventh with a bunt up the middle that got LaFleur across home plate.
Hogan Harris improved to 4-1 on the season allowing one run off of four hits, walked four, and struck out six in six innings of work.
Big Number: 5
The sac bunt continues to be effective for the Cajuns with five sac bunts on the evening. In fact, they almost had as many sac bunts as hits on Saturday.
Player of the Game: Hogan Harris
Hogan Harris got his 4th quality start of the season allowing one run off of four hits and struck out six. With a Cajuns offense that was manufacturing runs, the junior from St. Thomas More definitely deserves some consideration.
