It was a long night in Starkville, Mississippi for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (1-1) as they wound being outscored by the Bulldogs of Mississippi State (3-0) on Saturday night 56-10.
Things started out well for the Cajuns though as they put together a respectable nine-play drive that ended with a 38-yard field goal from Kyle Pfau. The defense had a really good first drive as well, but Nick Fitzgerald proved to be too much with a quick run into the endzone on 4th and goal from the one-yard line to make it 7-3.
From then on, it was all Mississippi State with Fitzgerald rushing for a 14-yard touchdown late in the first quarter to extend the lead. The Bulldogs continued to find the endzone through the ground with both Fitzgerald and Aeris Williams each getting a touchdown before the Bulldogs senior quarterback connected with Stephan Guidry won a 38-yard pass in the final seconds of the first half to make it 35-3.
It continued to be an uphill climb for the Cajuns in the third quarter with the Bulldogs putting up a pair of touchdowns including a 25-yard pass to Keith Mixon to make it 49-3.
The Cajuns finally found the endzone when Andre Nunez found JaMarcus Bradley in the endzone to make it 49-10. The scoring wrapped up on the next with Keytaon Thompson running it in from 16 yards to put the ballgame on ice.
The Cajuns will return to Cajun Field on Saturday to open up conference play against Coastal Carolina (2-1) with kickoff set for 6 pm.
