The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns are going bowling for the sixth straight season, and they now know that they will be staying in the Bayou State to do it.
According to multiple sources, Michael Desormeaux’s team will play in the 2023 R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday, December 16 against the newest member of Conference USA, the Gamecocks of Jacksonville St.
Louisiana, fresh off their second straight 6-6 regular season, has dealt with a ton of adversity this season, losing their top two quarterbacks on the depth chart and their starting center. After starting the season 5-3, they skidded to a 1-3 finish but finished strong with a 52-21 beatdown of ULM in the final game at Cajun Field before its major renovation.
Jacksonville State is working through its FBS transition into CUSA but finished this year with an 8-4 record. Typically, the Gamecocks wouldn’t be eligible for a bowl game, but both JSU and James Madison benefitted from their simply not being enough six-win teams to fill the bowl games.
The matchup from inside the Caesars Superdome will take place on Saturday, December 16 at 1:15 p.m.
