The Arena Football League announced that former NFL head coach and current president of the Nashville Kats Jeff Fisher has been named the interim commissioner of the league.
The decision to move Fisher into this role was made unanimously by the team owners in alignment with league ownership.
With the news, the league also announced that they will retain 10 teams going forward: the Albany Firebirds, Billings Outlaws, Nashville Kats, Orlando Predators, Rapid City Marshalls, Salina Liberty, SW Kansas Storm, Washington Wolfpack, West Texas Desert Hawks, and the Wichita Regulators. Lafayette’s Louisiana Voodoo was left off the list, meaning their season has come to an end after playing just one game at Blackham Coliseum.
The franchise had issues from the beginning, originally slated to play in Lake Charles before a last-minute move to Lafayette after disagreements with the operations group of the Lake Charles Civic Center.
Then, the opening week featured issues with the other team not making the trip from Philadelphia so the Voodoo found a team in Dallas that made the trip over to play the game before the second game of the season was postponed due to a lack of netting in the arena.
