The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (3-3, 2-1 Sun Belt) had another solid defensive effort with three turnovers in a 24-7 victory over Texas State.
The Cajuns started out strong on their opening drive highlighted by a deep pass from Andre Nunez to Keenan Barnes. Trey Ragas wound up putting the exclamation point on the drive with an 11-yard run.
Later in the first quarter, Damarren Mitchell recovered a fumble from Damian Williams in Bobcat territory. The Cajuns got points off the turnover as the first quarter wrapped up with a short touchdown run from Ragas. It would remain 14-0 through the rest of the first half.
The Bobcats capitalized on the Cajuns missing on a fourth down conversion to start the second half with Willie Jones waking up the offense with a deep ball to Thurman Mobley. Texas State continued to march down the field and capped off the drive with a touchdown run from Anthony Taylor to cut the Cajuns lead in half late in the third quarter.
The offense started to wake up late in the third quarter but wound up sputtering out at the Bobcat 10 and settled for a chipshot field goal from Stevie Artigue to make it 17-7 at the end of third quarter.
The Cajuns put the final nail in the fourth quarter with a long march down the field from the Cajuns that ended with an eight yard touchdown pass in the endzone from Barnes.
The Cajuns will hit the road to Jonesboro next Thursday when they take on Arkansas State (2-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) with kickoff set for 6:30 pm.
