
After a Sun Belt Conference series win at South Alabama by the Vermilion and White, Louisiana’s Conor Higgs was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week in an announcement by the league offices on Tuesday.
Higgs went 5-for-11 (.455) overall in four games last week with three home runs, six RBI, six runs scored, and two stolen bases. Higgs began the week with a 2-for-3 performance, including a solo home run, on Wednesday at Southeastern Louisiana before going 3-for-8 with two homers, five RBI, and five runs scored at South Alabama.
The senior outfielder opened the series on Friday, going 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored in a 7-1 win. Higgs capped off the series on Sunday with homers in his first two at-bats and added a sacrifice fly in a 9-3 victory.
Higgs is tied for first in conference home runs with nine, is hitting a team-high .338 in the season with nine homers, and has a team-best 17 RBI.
Next up for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns is a midweek matchup on the road Tuesday against the LSU Tigers. That game can be heard on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles. For their weekend series, the Vermilion and White will stay home and welcome in the James Madison Dukes. Game one’s first pitch at the Tigue is set for 6:00 pm on Friday, March 28th.
