LSU Bats Go Cold In Another Pitcher Duel vs Georgia

Posted by clintdomingue on March 23, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

Athens, Georgia has been the site of something that many LSU fans haven’t seen in a while and that’s pitcher’s duels. Friday night was a prime example of that with both starters going eight innings in a 1-0 ballgame. Saturday afternoon was more of the same, but this time the Georgia Bulldogs came away with some late hits to walk away with a 2-0 win and even up the weekend series.

How It Happened:

Neither team could get their offense going for much of Saturday afternoon’s matchup. It wasn’t until the bottom of the eighth that Georgia was able to break up the deadlock with an RBI single out to left field by Austin Biggar. Later in the inning, Riley King hit a sac fly out to right field to get Mason Meadows home safely and give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Daniel Cabrera started off the ninth inning with an RBI single, but Cade Beloso cost the Tigers an opportunity to put a runner in scoring position with a hit to the Bulldogs shortstop. After that Giovanni DiGiacomo wrapped up the ballgame when he was thrown out at first.

Big Number: 8

Both pitching staffs were dealing on Saturday, each striking out eight batters apiece. It’s amazing seeing two pitching duels on consecutive nights considering the pitchers that were out there for the Tigers

Player of the Game: Austin Biggar

The pinch-hitter for the Bulldogs gave them the lead in the eighth inning and proved to be a crucial play on Saturday afternoon to even up the series.

Next Up: Sunday vs Georgia; First Pitch 11 am
