LSU Beats Florida In 14-Inning Marathon

Posted by clintdomingue on May 26, 2016 in Latest News

Another night, another wild ballgame from LSU as the Tigers beat the Gators for the fourth time in about a week in a 14-inning marathon by the score of 5-4.

The Gators struck early on with JJ Schwarz hitting a double in the bottom of the first down the left field line that allowed Jonathan India to score. Buddy Reed followed that up with a triple to left center that sent Schwarz home to make it 2-0.

But the magic of the rally possum came alive in the top of the eighth with Jake Fraley hitting a single to center field to send Antoine Duplantis home safely. Kramer Robertson tied it up when he hit one to third base and reached on due to fielder’s choice. Bryce Jordan would give LSU the lead later in the inning with a single up the middle that allowed Robertson to score.

But the Gators tied things up in the bottom of the ninth with two outs when Deacon Liput sent one through the right side  to score Reed.

The score would remain tied until the top of the 14th when Jordan Romero came on to pinch hit. He was 0-for-17 heading into this at-bat and broke out of his slump with a single through the right side that allowed Chris Reid to score. Cole Freeman would add an insurance run with a single to left field that allowed Brennan Breaux to score.

Jesse Stallings improved to 3-0 on the year with five shutout innings, allowing two hits, and struck out five on the night.

The Tigers will now take on the number-one seed Mississippi State with first pitch scheduled for 8 pm.
