The LSU Tigers (5-4) first road trip of the season didn’t exactly go as planned with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (6-3) getting out in front early and were able to stave off a late rally by the Tigers to send them home packing by the score of 5-4.
Mike Taylor got the scoring started for Southeastern in the bottom of the third with an RBI single through the right side and that was followed up by a two-run shot to right center from Drew Avans, making it 3-0.
Avans made LSU pay yet again in the fifth with a two-run double out to right center to extend the Lion lead to 5-0. The Tigers started to fight back though in the top of the seventh with Daniel Cabrera getting Brandt Broussard home safely with a sac fly.
The ballgame got interesting in the eighth inning when Jake Slaughter approached the plate. With a 1-1 count and two outs on the board, he blasted one out to left center field to make it 5-4, but it wasn’t enough as LSU wasn’t able to scratch another run across.
Todd Peterson dropped to 0-3 on the year allowing three runs off of four hits in two innings pitched.
LSU will return to action on Friday when they host Toledo on Friday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
