LSU (18-8) looked to have things under control after the fourth inning when Michael Papierski hit a grand slam to put the Tigers up 5-2. However, the Tulane Green Wave (9-15) were able to get the lead back late and take down LSU.
The Wave were able to take the lead with Jake Willsey hitting his second home run of the game in the top of the sixth.
Hunter Williams gave Tulane extra cushion in the top of the ninth with an RBI double down the left field line.
LSU managed to get it within one run in the bottom of the ninth with Josh Smith making it to third base off of a fielding error that allowed Greg Deichmann to score. However, freshman Jake Slaughter dashed the Tigers hopes of tying things up with a fly out to center field.
Russell Reynolds dropped to 0-1 on the season allowing two runs off three hits in two-thirds of an inning of work.
The Tigers will return to action on Thursday when they take on Texas A&M (17-9, 1-5 SEC) with first pitch set for 6 pm.
