The LSU Tigers won their eighth straight on Sunday afternoon and completed the sweep of Tennessee (26-26, 7-20 SEC) by the score of 10-7.
The Tigers struck first with a two-run triple to left center field from Cole Freeman in the top of the second. Antoine Duplantis would make it 3-0 later in the inning with a single to left field that allowed Freeman to come home safely.
But the Vols responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs to make it a one run contest.
LSU increased their lead in the top of the third with a single from Bryce Jordan that allowed Kramer Robertson to score. The barrage continued in the top of the sixth with Jordan sending one flying over the left field wall to make it 5-2. Greg Deichmann would add to the score later in the inning with an RBI triple to center field.
But the Vols responded once again later in the sixth with a two-run double from Tyler Schultz to cut the lead down to two. The Vols would proceed to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run triple from Benito Santiago.
But the Tigers responded with Deichmann hitting an RBI single to get the lead right back. Later in the inning, Duplantis put the nail in the coffin with a three run blast over the right field wall.
Parker Bugg improved to 1-2 on the season allowing two runs off of three hits, walked one, and struck out one in two innings of work.
The Tigers (36-16, 17-10 SEC) will return to the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium on Tuesday night to take on Northwestern State (30-21) with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
