LSU Crushed By Ole Miss in Series Opener

Posted by clintdomingue on April 26, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

It’s not often that you see LSU (25-17, 9-10 SEC) allow 11 runs in an inning. Then again it’s not often that you ever see that happen in college baseball. However, the Tigers bullpen fell apart, losing the series opener to the Ole Miss Rebels (32-10, 10-8 SEC) 14-3.

How It Happened

The Rebels got out in front early on with an RBI single by Cole Zabowski. LSU quickly responded in the top of the second when Nick Coomes grounded out to second base to get Austin Bain across.

Antoine Duplantis followed suit in the top of the third when he grounded out to first base, scoring Josh Smith to put the Tigers up 2-1.

However, this didn’t last long as Tyler Keenan evened things up in the fourth, scoring off of a wild pitch. The Rebels got out to a 3-2 lead with Dillard scoring off of a fielder’s choice.

After another groundout tied things up in the top of the sixth, the Rebels blew them out of the water, putting together 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a pair of two-run singles by Nick Fortes and Will Golsan.

John Kodros was credited with the loss allowing three runs off of two hits and was unable to record a single out.

Big Number: 11

An 11-run inning is not just a big number, it’s a HUGE number that sticks out like a sore thumb. The play-by-play for this inning is enough to make any LSU fan feel sick to their stomach.

Player of the Game: Nick Fortes

The Rebels catcher got things done offensively, going two-for four, accounting for four of their 14 runs on Thursday night.

Next Up: Game Two Friday; First Pitch 6:30 pm
