One of the big questions coming out of opening weekend was the pitching, especially when it comes to Zack Hess. At least one question was answered on Friday night with Hess putting together a solid performance on the mound, giving LSU (3-2) a 13-4 win over the Texas Longhorns (3-2).
The Tigers offense came out of the gates strong with a five-run inning that was capped off by a two-run double courtesy of Brandt Broussard. However, the Longhorns responded in the top of the second with an RBI triple from Tate Shaw followed by a sac fly from Ryan Reynolds to make it a three-run ballgame
After that, it was all LSU in the third with three more runs coming across, highlighted by a two-run double from Daniel Cabrera to make it 8-2 after three innings. After a two-run double from Broussard in the fourth, Austin Bain wound up delivering the final blow on the evening with an RBI double out to center field.
Hess improved to 1-1 on the season allowing two runs off of five hits, walked two, and struck out ten over six innings of work.
LSU will look to win the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
