The LSU Tigers (11-5) offense was stymied by Cullen McDonald, who threw for 7.2 innings en route to a 3-1 win for the Northwestern State Demons (8-6)
How It Happened:
Chris Reid got the Tigers on the board first with a grounder to first base, getting Josh Smith home safely and getting the early lead. That lead was good enough until the bottom of the sixth when Jakob Nunez scored off of a wild pitch with two outs left in the inning to tie things up.
Jeffrey Elkins busted things open right after that with a two-run double out to left field. The Tigers had a golden opportunity to take the lead back with the bases loaded, but couldn’t capitalize on it and headed back to Baton Rouge with a sour taste in their mouth.
Big Number: 5
Cullen McDonald looked great in the start and one of the big reasons why was because he struck out five batters on the evening in seven and two-thirds of an inning of work.
Player of the Game: Cullen McDonald
It feels too easy to pick him, but honestly, he’s really the only player that made a significant impact and gave the Demons the opportunity to get the win.
