There was no possum in sight at Baum Stadium on Saturday night, but the spirit of that fateful night was still there as LSU (21-11, 5-6 SEC) erased an 8-1 deficit to take down Arkansas (25-7, 8-3 SEC) by the score of 10-8.
Josh Smith really got the rally started in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to right center field to make it 8-2.
Things started to get weird in the eighth inning with Coomes scored thanks to a fielder’s choice from Cole Freeman. That was followed up by a two-run blast from Greg Deichmann to make it an 8-5 deficit.
It got even stranger in the ninth when Cole Freeman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. That was followed up by Brennan Breaux scoring off of a wild pitch.
Kramer Robertson gave the Tigers their first lead of the game after he reached on a throwing error by the Razorbacks. That mistake wound up scoring two more runs. Deichmann gave the Tigers a two-run lead with an RBI single.
Matthew Beck got his first win of the season with one shutout inning where he walked only one batter. Hunter Newman got his third save of the season in one inning of work where things got dicey, but only allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out the last batter he faced to even up the series.
The Tigers will look to win the rubber match on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 pm.
