LSU Falls Short Against Auburn 78-74

More and more it seems like LSU basketball (9-8, 1-5 SEC) can’t get out of their way. That was evident on Wednesday as they lost their fourth straight against Auburn (12-6, 2-4 SEC).

It was all Auburn to start the game as they were able to get out to an 11-7 lead before the first media timeout. However, LSU would fight back with an 18-4 run over the course of five minutes to take a double digit lead at the halfway point of the first half. That lead would slowly dwindle away in the final minutes and Auburn would head into the locker room with a 35-32 lead.

The start of the second half was very familiar as Auburn would get out in front of LSU, going up by double digits within the first five minutes of the second half. It was all Auburn the rest of the way despite late rally by LSU.

LSU will try and snap the four-game skid on Saturday night when they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (14-4, 3-3 SEC) on Saturday with tipoff set for 7:30 pm.

By the Numbers:

16: Number of points off the fastbreak for Auburn. The defense for LSU continues to be an issue when it comes to the fastbreak.

13: Number of points Antonio Blakeney had on Wednesday night for LSU. The sophomore was injured during the Saturday loss against Alabama and his status heading into the game was unknown.

86.4: Auburn’s free-throw percentage. Auburn was able to control the game behind the charity stripe as they shot it 22 times on the night compared to LSU’s 13.

500: Number of wins Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has following Wednesday night’s matchup.
