The LSU Tigers were in it for the most part on Friday night, but were unable to get the win against Mississippi State (25-12-1, 8-7 SEC) 12-8.
Lowe got things started for the Bulldogs with a grand slam to right field in the top of the first to make it 4-0 early.
LSU got back in it in the top of the second with a pair of runs thanks to a pair of RBI singles by Antoine Duplantis and Cole Freeman.
Chris Reid got the Tigers within one with an RBI single in the bottom of the third. They tied things up later in the inning with a nice bunt by Papierski.
But the Bulldogs responded in the top of the sixth scoring three runs to maintain the lead. After a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, Duplantis got his first career home run. But it wasn’t of the solo variety for the Lafayette native; it was a grand slam to cut the lead to one run.
However, the Bulldogs were able to put the nail in the coffin with a three run eighth.
Jared Poche dropped to 5-4 on the year allowing seven runs off of eight hits, walking two, and struck out two in six innings of work.
The Tigers (26-12, 9-7 SEC) will try to even the series on Saturday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
