The LSU Tigers went back and forth with Ole Miss (32-11, 11-8 SEC) on Thursday night, but the Rebels were able to pull away in the sixth to take down LSU.
Antoine Duplantis got things going for the Tiger when he stole third and the catcher committed a throwing error allowed him to reach home safely to make it 1-0. Later in the inning Jordan Romero made it 2-0 with a sac fly to right field that allowed Jake Fraley to reach home.
But the Rebels responded quickly in the bottom of the first with a single from Tate Blackman to left field that scored Olenek. Later in the inning, J.B. Woodman tied things up with a double to left center field.
LSU got the lead back in the top of the third when Jordan Romero pushed two across with a double to left center field. But the Rebels once again responded in the bottom half of the inning with Blackman and Woodman getting two across with a pair of double to tied things up once again.
Duplantis gave the Tigers the lead again in the top of the sixth when he grounded out to the second baseman and it allowed Chris Reid to reach home safely.
But the Rebels responded once again in the bottom of the sixth with a triple to right center from Robinson to send one across to tie things up. Olenek got on base later in the inning off of a throwing error by the pitcher that led to Robinson coming across to take the lead. Blackman got another RBI later in the inning when hit a sac fly to right field to make it 7-5.
LSU would try to rally in the top of the seventhoff of an RBI from Deichmann off of a fielder’s choice, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Tigers.
Parker Bugg dropped to 0-2 on the year allowing three runs off of two hits, walking two, and striking out three on the night.
The Tigers (27-15, 10-9 SEC) will try to even up the series on Friday night with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
