After getting all the way to the SEC Title game, LSU sputtered out against a very good Ole Miss team, falling 9-1.
How It Happened
LSU wasted little time getting on the board with Daniel Cabrera hitting a two-out RBI double down the left field line to get Duplantis home safely. That lead didn’t last long though as the Rebels evened things up in the second when Chase Cockrell hit one into right center to score Will Golsan.
After Nick Fortes gave them the lead in the third when scored off of a wild pitch, he added to it in the fourth with an RBI single to third base to make it 3-1.
Golsan busted things open in the 7th when he hit a two-run single out to right field. Ole Miss wasn’t done though as Tim Rowe lifted a two-run home run just over the centerfield wall to make it 7-1. Michael Fitzsimmons delivered the final blow though in the ninth with a two-run bomb of his own to left field.
Caleb Gilbert dropped to 3-5 on the season, allowing three runs off of nine hits and struck out one on the evening.
Big Number: 8
LSU was able to get people on base, but was unable to cash in on those opportunities, stranding eight. What makes that an even bigger story is that the Tigers only had four hits. It was just a bad day all around offensively.
Player of the Game: Cam Sanders
Give the young man some credit for three solid innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four on the afternoon.
