LSU Falls to Sacramento State After Ninth Inning Heroics

Posted by clintdomingue on February 27, 2016 in Latest News

The LSU Tigers pitching was very good on Saturday afternoon, but some late inning heroics gave Sacramento State (4-2) a 5-4 win over the Tigers.

Sacramento State got things started in the top of the second with an RBI double to left field from Goodrich

The Tigers struck in a big way in the bottom of the third starting off with Antoine Duplantis getting an RBI single. Jake Fraley followed that up with an RBI double to put the Tigers up 2-1.

Brody Wofford finished off the scoring later in the inning with a two-run triple to go up 4-1.

But the Hornets from Sacramento didn’t give up as they started to cut away at the lead in the top of the fourth first with Esposito leading off with a solo shot to left field with McWiliam hitting an RBI single to left field to make it 4-3.

The Hornets continued to rally in the top of the ninth with Smith hitting an RBI single through the right side of the field. Then Esposito hit a sac fly that allowed Reynolds to reach home for what would be the game winner.

Caleb Gilbert registered his first loss of the season, allowing two runs off of two hits, walking one, and striking out five.

LSU (4-2) will go for the series win in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 pm.
