The LSU Tigers couldn’t get out of their own way on Saturday afternoon against Tennessee (13-14 6-8 SEC) on the way to a 81-65 loss.
The Tigers and the Volunteers went back and forth with each other early on, but the Tennessee was able to pull away late in the first half to make it 31-25 at the half. The Vols were able to take advantage with 12 of LSU’s 16 turnovers coming in the first half.
Tennessee continued to put a gap between themselves and the Tigers with a 16-4 run to start the half. Despite an attempt at a rally by the Tigers, it was too little too late as the Volunteers went on a 9-4 run to put the game away.
Despite not playing the opening five minutes of the game, Ben Simmons led the Tigers with 21 points, nine boards, two assists, and one steal. Antonio Blakeney was right next to Simmons with 20 points, seven boards, and two steals on the day.
Robert Hubbs led the Volunteers with 19 points, seven boards, two assists, and one steal.
The Tigers (16-11, 9-5 SEC) will try and snap the losing streaking on Tuesday when they travel to Arkansas (13-14, 6-8 SEC) with tipoff set for 6 pm.
