LSU GAMER: Bulldogs take down Tigers 7-4 in nine innings

Posted by hannahadams on May 11, 2022 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, LSU Tigers, What's Hot, What's New

Even with extra innings to keep LSU in play, the No. 6 seed Tigers couldn’t string enough runs to take down the No. 11 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs. They will now wait for their seating for a NCAA Regional.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Bulldogs came out swinging as Shea Moreno hit a two-run home run putting Mississippi State 2-0. The Tigers ended their first inning quickly with two fly outs and a strikeout.

In the bottom of the second, LSU got themselves on the board and tied the ball game. Shelbi Sunseri got on with a double and right fielder Morgan Smith brought them both in with a two-run home run.

Mississippi State retook the lead in the top of the third by scoring two runs.

Neither team scored any runs in the next three but LSU broke through in the bottom of the seventh.

With runners on second and third, Ciara Briggs hit a single up the middle that scored two runs and forced extra innings.

Both teams had runners in scoring position in the eighth but were unable to have them cross home plate. That would change in the ninth.

In the ninth, Mississippi State plated three runs on back-to-back RBI singles to right field and a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-4.

In the bottom frame, LSU went three up and three down to end the game.

BIG NUMBER: 10

In the early exit from the SEC Tournament, the Lady Tigers left a total of ten batters on base.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: SHEA MORENO

Moreno came up big for the Bulldogs on multiple occasions, with a RBI single and a two-run homer in the game. The Seminole State transfer totaled 3 RBIs in the contest.

UP NEXT: The LSU Tigers softball team will now await their fate for the NCAA Regionals on Sunday May 15th.
