LSU GAMER: Tigers Hang On to Beat Nicholls State

The LSU TIgers were given a bit of a scare in the first half of Saturday’s matchup against the Nicholls State Colonels. However, the Tigers were able to hold off the Colonels despite a big performance by Dexter McClanahan, winning by the score of 75-65.

How It Happened:

After an early back-and-forth, LSU started to pull away thanks to a healthy dose of Trendon Watford and Emmitt Williams as they took an early 15-5 lead. However, McClanahan gave Nicholls State control of the ballgame midway through the first half with a three-pointer and were up by as much as seven points, but a big finish by the Tigers made it a 39-38 ballgame at the break.

After the first media timeout of the second half, the Tigers came alive with a 10-0 run to really take control of the ballgame inside the PMAC. The Colonels tried to claw back, getting within six points after a made free throw from Kevin Johnson, but a late dunk from Williams slammed the door shut on any chance of a rally by Nicholls State.

Big Number: 45

The Tigers dominated the boards on Saturday night with 45 total rebounds on the afternoon. It was a big reason why LSU was able to secure the victory.

Player of the Game: Dexter McClanahan

McClanahan may have been on the losing side of things, but you have to give him credit for his big afternoon with 20 points, five boards, and three steals was really the only thing keeping the Colonels in it.

Next Up: Tuesday vs UMBC; Tipoff at 6 pm
