The LSU Tigers (13-6, 1-0 SEC) were able to open up SEC play on Friday night the right way despite a rally in the seventh by Mizzou (14-4, 0-1 SEC) by the score of 4-2.
Austin Bain put LSU on the board in the bottom of the first when he reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Zach Watson. Later on in the inning, Brandt Broussard reached home after Chris Reid was walked with the bases loaded to make it 2-0.
Beau Jordan made it 3-0 in the bottom of the third when he blasted one out to left field. Mizzou started to fight back though when Chris Cornelious hit a sac fly in the top of the seventh out to right field. Later in the inning, Mizzou made it a one-run ballgame when Trey Harris hit a grounder to Hal Hughes and that allowed Mark Vierling to reach home safely.
Zach Watson was able to put the exclamation point on LSU’s victory when he hit an RBI double down the left field line to score Chris Reid.
Zack Hess improved to 3-2 on the season allowing two runs off of three hits, walked five, and struck out eight in six innings of work. Austin Bain got his second save of the season allowing one hit and striking out two in the ninth.
LSU will look to win the series tomorrow night with first pitch set for 5:30 pm.
