After a big win against Tennessee last Saturday, it felt like there was a chance that LSU (23-5, 13-2 SEC) would slip up on Tuesday night against Texas A&M (12-15, 5-10 SEC). That wasn’t the case as the Tigers got out in front early and never really looked back on the way to a 66-55 win over the Aggies.
How It Happened:
The Tigers wasted little time getting on the board with three straight dunks, each more impactful than the last and was a big reason why they were able to take a 10-5 lead into the first media timeout. LSU wound up making a double-digit lead thanks to some solid shooting from the charity stripe by Javonte Smart and Skylar Mays. That continued for the Tigers as they headed into the locker room with a pretty comfortable 16-point lead at halftime.
Texas A&M came out the gates strong in the second half with a 6-0 run, but that didn’t last long after Smart drained a three followed up by a nice jumper from Naz Reid. From that point on, the Tigers never led by less than nine points as they avoided a trap game inside the PMAC.
Big Number: 85.7
The Tigers looked great from the charity stripe, shooting 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. If not for that kind of performance, Texas A&M could have made it an interesting game because LSU had a rough night from the field, shooting 34.8% on the evening.
Player of the Game: Naz Reid
After only scoring one point on Saturday, Reid looked like a different player with 18 points and 11 boards in the win. It’s crazy to think how good this team is even without Tremont Waters who missed his second straight game.
