For a brief period of time, it seemed like the LSU Tigers (9-19, 1-15 SEC) might finally win a game after losing the previous 14 SEC games.
The Tigers took a one-point lead with 1:25 left in regulation after a tip-in from Wayde Sims. However, the Georgia Bulldogs (17-12, 8-8 SEC) would get the win behind the line in the final seconds to win 82-80.
The first half started out much like other LSU games with an early back and forth before the opposing team got out to a big lead. However, after being down by 15 points with 7:59 left in the first half, they would fight back and get the lead down to seven points at the half.
The Tigers would keep it competitive throughout the second half and seemed to be just hanging around until the final moments.
LSU will return to the PMAC on Wednesday when they take on the Tennessee Volunteers (15-14, 7-9 SEC) with tipoff set for 6 pm.
By the Numbers:
25: Number of points off the bench for LSU. While the starting five did have a solid performance, the Tigers bench was a big factor in keeping the game competitive late.
29: Number of points for Georgia’s JJ Frazier. He led the Bulldogs in points and assists with eight.
14: Number of second chance points for the LSU Tigers. While it was a losing effort, you can’t help but to be surprised that the Tigers had some control of this game and were able to get extra shooting opportunities. If not for numerous contested putbacks in the final seconds, it could have been a win.
15: The new record has been set as LSU has set a single-season record with 15 SEC losses.
