After coming up just short on Thursday night, the LSU Tigers offense came alive in Starkville with a 10-5 win over Mississippi State.
How It Happened:
Chris Reid got the Tigers on the board in the first with an RBI single but after a throwing error, Josh Smith and Antoine Duplantis were able to get home safely to take an early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning Giovanni DiGiacomo extended their lead with an RBI single through the left side.
The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the fourth with Jake Mangum scoring off of a passed ball and an RBI single from Elijah MacNamee.
LSU got another crooked number inning in the fifth highlighted by a two-run single by Reid to make it 6-2. However, Jordan Westburg cut that lead down to two runs in the bottom frame with a two-run blast.
LSU started to pull away in the sixth with an RBI double from Josh Smith and another double from Zach Watson made it 8-4. CJ Willis finished the day off with a sac fly in the seventh, scoring Reid and an RBI single up the middle.
Big Number: 300
Antoine Duplantis put himself in the history books on Friday with his 300th career hit. That puts him in a very elite class of six other players in LSU’s history to eclipse that mark, including Eddie Furniss.
Player of the Game: Antoine Duplantis
Duplantis had been in a slump as of late, but it looked like that turned around, going three-of-five on the evening.
