LSU Overpowers Grambling in Midweek Matchup

Posted by clintdomingue on February 27, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The bats for the LSU Tigers (5-3) are starting to wake up. It took a few innings, but three home runs on Tuesday night wound up being the key to a 10-3 victory over Grambling (4-5).

Things looked dicey early on with Cam Sanders giving Grambling an early lead in the first with a bases-loaded walk to Isaiah Torres. Rafael Ramirez made it 2-0 in the second when he was able to score off of a wild pitch from the freshman.

Despite those early hiccups, Sanders put together a solid performance striking out eight in four innings of work, a far cry from his abysmal performance last Wednesday. Chris Campbell gave Grambling a 3-0 lead in the fourth with a sacrifice hit to Sanders that was able to get Ramirez across.

The Jordan brothers changed the entire complexion of the ballgame starting with an RBI single up the middle from Beau in the fourth and a three-run bomb from Bryce in the sixth was enough to give LSU the lead.

However, LSU wasn’t done with the gorilla ball because in the seventh, Hal Hughes led off the inning with a solo shot. Two batters later, Austin Bain got a two-run shot way out into center field make it 7-3. Jake Slaughter finished the job later in the inning with a two-run single.

Ma’Khail Hilliard improved to 2-0 on the year, throwing four shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out four on the evening.

LSU will leave the friendly confines of the Box on Wednesday when they take on Southeastern Louisiana (5-3) with first pitch set for 6 pm.
