LSU Powers Past Bryant 13-6

Posted by clintdomingue on February 23, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

The LSU Tigers (5-0) started off their weekend series against the Bryant Bulldogs (2-2) with another offensive explosion, resulting in a 13-6 win.

How It Happened

The Tigers offense got going in the bottom of the second with a two-run inning highlighted by an RBI single from Hal Hughes. LSU racked up two more two-run innings in the third and fourth, but the offense really came unglued with they put together a four-run fifth, highlighted by a two-run double from Josh Smith to give the Tigers a 10-1 lead.

However, the Bulldogs took advantage of a sub-par bullpen in the seventh inning, scoring three runs including a two-run single by Chris Wright. Sam Owens led off the eighth inning with a shot out to left field to continue to chip away at the lead, but Daniel Cabrera officially slammed the door shut with a three-run bomb out to right field.

Big Number: 6

Zack Hess looked like his old self in five innings of work on Friday night, striking out six batters on the evening. If not for a 23-pitch first inning, odds are he would’ve been on the mound for a little bit longer.

Player of the Game: Zack Hess

Hess definitely deserves this for his performance in five innings of work, allowing only one run off of four hits to get his first win of the season. This is the Hess many fans expected to see heading into this season and his performance may have given some of the fans a little more confidence in his ability.

Next Up: Game Two Saturday; First Pitch at 7 pm
