LSU Pummeled by Oregon State 14-1

Posted by clintdomingue on June 3, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

Some nights, you’ve got it and other nights things just go off the rails. Saturday night for the LSU Tigers in Corvallis was the latter with the Oregon State offense dominating Zack Hess and the rest of the pitching staff en route to a 14-1 win.

How It Happened

Adley Rutschmann got things going for the Beavers to start the ballgame with a two-out, two-run double out to center field and that really set the tone for the rest of the ballgame. Oregon State went up 5-0 in the third after an RBI single from Michael Gretler and a pair of bases-loaded walks.

Things truly came unglued in the top of the fourth with a five-run inning capped off by a two-run single by Zak Taylor out to right field. Jake Slaughter finally got the Tigers on the board in the bottom half of the fourth, but Steven Kwan slammed the door shut with a two-run triple down the right field line to make it 12-1.

Zack Hess dropped to 7-6 on the season allowing nine runs off of eight hits, walked four, and struck out six on the evening.

Big Number: 5

Five Oregon State players had multi-hit ballgames on Saturday with the two-through-five hitters going a combined 10-of-20 (.500) with four RBIs, three doubles, and a home run from Nick Madrigal.

Player of the Game: Adley Rutschmann

The five-hole hitter had a great night, putting up three RBIs and a pair of doubles on the evening.

Next Up: Elimination Game against Northwestern State; First Pitch 2 pm
