LSU Rallies to Take Down South Carolina

Posted by clintdomingue on May 22, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

When LSU makes it to Hoover, Alabama anything can happen for the Tigers. It took some doing, but they were able to rally in the middle innings to advance to the next round of the SEC Tournament with an 8-6 win over South Carolina.

How It Happened:

Josh Smith jumpstarted the Tigers in the bottom of the first with a solo shot to right field, but the Gamecocks responded in a big way with a five-run second inning that was highlighted by a two-run double to left center courtesy of Chris Cullen.

LSU answered the bell in the bottom frame with a two-run single from Cade Beloso. Things really started to turn in favor of the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Josh Smith. Antoine Duplantis and Cade Beloso finished the job in the fifth with a pair of RBI singles to make it 8-5.

Big Number: 3

Usually, when a team commits three errors in a ballgame they usually take the loss. However, LSU’s three errors didn’t count against them thanks to a big offensive performance with 13 hits on the evening.

Player of the Game: Cade Beloso

Beloso has been one of the best players as the season has progressed and his performance on Tuesday showed why, going three-of-four on the evening with three RBIs.

Next Up: Wednesday vs Mississippi State; First Pitch TBD
