After about ten days off due to finals week, the LSU Tigers (5-2) returned to the court on Sunday afternoon and they looked like they hadn’t missed a beat with a 97-84 victory over UNC Wilmington (2-5).
LSU got out in front early on, but the Seahawks kept it within five points for much of the first half. It wasn’t until the final 4:25 that the Tigers started to pull away, going on a 12-3 run to take a 52-36 lead into the break.
It looked like LSU was going to let UNC-Wilmington back in the ballgame when the Seahawks made it a seven-point deficit with 10:47 left, but the Tigers slammed the door shut thanks to a rare four-point play by Skylar Mays, who scored 12 of his 14 points in the second frame.
Duop Reath led the Tigers with 30 points, five boards, one assist, and one block on the afternoon.
LSU will return to action on Wednesday when they host the Houston Cougars with tipoff set for 8 pm.
