The season for the LSU Tigers has ended a little bit earlier than they expected on Sunday night in a 4-3 loss to Coastal Carolina.
The Chanticleers got on the board early after coming out of the gates with aggressive playcalling that led to Anthony Marks scoring off of a wild pitch from Jared Poche. Later in the inning, G.K. Young made it 2-0 with an RBI single to left field that allowed Connor Owings to get to home plate safely.
LSU was able to cut the deficit to one-run in the top of the third with an RBI double down the left field line from Cole Freeman that scored Chris Reid.
But Coastal Carolina was able to keep the Tigers at bay in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to center field from Kevin Woodall that scored Young to make it 3-1. But Antoine Duplantis once again made it a one-run game in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to score Chris Reid.
The Tigers tied it up after a fielding error by the second baseman off a hit from Jake Fraley allowed Freeman to score in the top of the ninth. But in the bottom half of the inning, Michael Paez punched Coastal Carolina’s ticket to Omaha with a walkoff RBI single to left field.
Hunter Newman dropped to 1-1 after allowing one run off of one hit, walked three, and struck out two in two innings of work.
LSU’s season now ends with a 45-21 record.
