“Put it on me.” This was the first thing LSU (2-1, 0-1 SEC) head coach Ed Orgeron said when he approached the podium after falling to Mississippi State (3-0, 1-0 SEC) by the score of 37-7.
You can also put it on the Tigers defense committing nine penalties for a whopping 112 yards. It was an undisciplined performance that saw two Tigers get ejected after targeting and led to the Bulldogs remaining undefeated.
Nick Fitzgerald got Mississippi State on the board early in the second quarter with a three-yard run. LSU tied it up in quick fashion with an eight play drive capped off by a 10-yard run by Darrel Williams. This was as close as it got for the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs got the lead back late in the second quarter thanks to a 30-yard field goal from Jace Christmann, making it 10-7. Mississippi State finished the first half with Fitzgerald getting into the endzone on a three-yard run to make it 17-7 as both teams headed into the locker room.
The Tigers continued to struggle in the second half and Fitzgerald officially put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a 45-yard pass to Keith Mixon.
LSU will return to Tiger Stadium next Saturday when they take on the Syracuse Orange (2-1) with kickoff set for 6 pm.
