After having Friday night’s SEC opener between LSU and Kentucky postponed, it was a wild Saturday with LSU winning both games of the doubleheader in very unique ways.
How It Happened:
Kentucky came out of the gates fast in game one with a TJ Collett RBI single in the first to take the lead. LSU wouldn’t score until the bottom of the eighth when Drew Bianco was walked with the bases loaded to tie the ballgame up.
The game would remain tied heading into the bottom of the 12th when Giovanni DiGiacomo got the walk-off walk to take game one by the score of 2-1.
After a quick break, LSU’s offense came unglued in game two with Chris Reid starting the offense off in the bottom of the first with a two-run double down the left field line to take the early lead. Kentucky responded in the top of the second but wasn’t ready for LSU to bring in six runs, highlighted by a two-run single out to center field by Daniel Cabrera.
LSU kept pouring it on in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run by Zach Watson highlighting a five-run inning and putting the game very much out of reach.
Big Number: 16
The offense exploded in that second game with a whopping 16 runs, resulting in one of the more surprisingly lopsided wins in the SEC
Player of the Game: Zach Watson
Zach Watson needs to be called Mr. Perfect, going 4-of-4 and 5 RBIs to boot is nothing short of impressive.
