LSU Takes Down 18th-Ranked Ole Miss Behind Strong Second Half

Posted by clintdomingue on January 15, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

Considering the fact that the LSU Tigers (16-3, 3-0 SEC) hadn’t won a game on the road since last season heading into this road trip, what they did on Tuesday night was even more impressive with an 83-69 win over the 18th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels (13-3, 3-1 SEC).

How It Happened:

Both teams came out of the gates slow, being tied 4-4 at the first media timeout of the ballgame. Things started to click as the first half progressed, but neither team was really able to get an edge and the first half ended with it tied at 31 headed into the locker room.

The tug-of-war continued early in the second half, but the Tigers were able to pull out in front with an 8-0 run that was capped off by a fast break dunk from Naz Reid off of a steal from Tremont Waters. From that point on, things really started to click and the Tigers started to pull away with a double-digit lead in the final 90 seconds to secure the big win.

Big Number: 3

One of the big things that LSU has struggled with in the second half is turnovers. They were able to not commit any bone-headed turnovers and only had three in the second half. Add the fact that Waters came up with a huge steal to help cap off an 8-0 run and really start turning the tide.

Player of the Game: Kavell Bigby-Williams

Bigby-Williams was all over the place tonight and was a defensive stalwart with five blocks. He also racked up 14 points and 10 boards on the evening and that alone was enough for him to earn player of the game honors.

Next Up: Saturday vs South Carolina; Tipoff at 5 pm
