The LSU Tigers were given a run for their money on Friday night against Mizzou (20-16), but were able to take them down with a 7-5 victory.
Mizzou got on the board right out of the gate with an two-run triple by Lavy in the bottom of the first to make it 2-0 early.
LSU responded in the top of the second when Michael Papierski grounded out and it allowed Kramer Robertson to score. The runs kept coming for LSU in the top of the fifth with a five run inning capped off by a three run shot by Bryce Jordan.
Mizzou was able to respond in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs from Bond and Doherty. McGuire hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to one run, but Cole Freeman put the game away in the top of the eighth with an RBI single.
Jared Poche improved to 5-3 on the year allowing five runs off of nine hits, walking two, and striking out five in six innings of work. Hunter Newman got his second save of the season throwing three shutout innings, allowing only one hit and struck out two.
LSU (23-11, 7-6 SEC) will try to clinch a series win on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 pm.
