The LSU Tigers are starting to click at the perfect time. Behind a great pitching performance by Jared Poche, the Tiger bats made some noise taking down Vanderbilt (24-6, 6-4 SEC) 13-4.
Jake Fraley got things started grounding out to shortstop, but that allowed Antoine Duplantis to reach home safely to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead after one inning. The scoring continued with a sac fly from Michael Papierski that allowed Kramer Robertson to score in the bottom of the second.
But it was the third inning where things began to get out of hand, with LSU racking up seven runs in the inning highlighted by a two run shot to left center field by Beau Jordan. They kept pouring it on in the bottom of the sixth with Deichmann hitting an RBI single to make it 10-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, Bryce Jordan came on to pinch hit for Deichmann and scored along with two other Tigers on a fielding error by Vanderbilt’s 3rd baseman to put the game out of reach.
Jared Poche pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, and struck out two on the night.
The Tigers (20-9, 5-5 SEC) will try to clinch their second straight series on Friday night with first pitch set for 7:30 pm.
