The LSU Tigers took care of business on Friday night after a lengthy weather delay, taking down the Wolverines 7-1.
Jake Fraley got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run blast to right field to make it 2-0.
The Wolverines quickly responded in the top of the second with a RBI double from Justin Erlandson to cut the deficit in half. But the Tigers didn’t keep a one-run game for long as Cole Freeman hit a single to center field in the bottom half of the inning to allow Beau Jordan to score.
LSU would extend their lead even more with Greg Deichmann hitting an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the third. The Tigers would begin to put it away with an RBI single in the sixth to right field from Bryce Jordan.
But it was Deichmann who put the dagger in the Wolverines hopes with a two run blast to left field.
Jared Poche improved to 8-4 allowing one run off of five hits and striking out eight in six innings of work.
The Tigers will now await the winner of Southeastern and Rice with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm, weather permitting.
