The house that Pete built was rocking on Tuesday night as the LSU Tigers took on the Wildcats and nearly led from start to finish on the way to a 85-67 upset over the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Tigers controlled the Wildcats throughout the first half thanks in part to their defense, only allowing them to make nine field goals. Perhaps the most surprising thing was LSU going up 37-27 at the half despite Ben Simmons, who had gotten into foul trouble early on, only playing nine minutes.
The ninth-ranked Wildcats made it a competitive game throughout the second half, but with Marcus Lee and Alex Poythress fouling out, the Tigers began to pull away and come away with the upset in front of a packed PMAC.
Tim Quarterman led the Tigers with 21 points, 10 boards, seven assists, and one block on the night. Despite Simmons missing most of the first half, he managed to get 14 points, 10 boards, three assists, two steals, and one block.
Tyler Ulis led the Wildcats with 23 points, one rebound, six assists, one steal, and one block.
The Tigers (9-5, 2-0 SEC) will now travel to take on Florida (9-4, 1-0 SEC) on January 9th with tipoff set for 12:30 pm.
