Welcome everyone to the latest edition of the LSU preview! This week, we look at the Tigers matchup against Southern Miss.
Last Week: As almost everyone knows, LSU was slated to face off against Florida last week, but that didn’t happen. Meanwhile, Southern Miss lost to UTSA last week by the score of 55-32.
Last Meeting: These two teams last met back in 1994 and the Golden Eagles sneaked out a win over LSU in Death Valley 20-18. The series is tied at one win a piece.
What to Watch For:
Playing Angry: After the ordeal with Florida, the LSU players should be well-rested and ready to hit somebody. A matchup against a group of five team before having one of the toughest stretches for any team in recent memory is going to be good therapy for the Tigers. But the Tigers need to be ready to go against one of the better QBs in Conference USA in Nick Mullins, especially with Rickey Jefferson out for the rest of the season. The secondary will need to step things up.
Well-Rested Offense: The week off after what happened over the last week was a blessing in disguise with the injuries that the Tigers have been afflicted with. Having injuries to the offensive line could have hurt the Tigers chances against Florida, but now you’ve got a chance to begin the process of getting your guys healthy before going through a proverbial gauntlet of tough SEC opponents. This is especially true with the junior running back known as Leonard Fournette. If you’re expecting to see him on the field this Saturday, you will be seeing him, but probably only on the sideline.
LSU Will Win If:
LSU isn’t exactly facing a world beater in Southern Miss, so if they can do what they did two weeks ago against Mizzou a win shouldn’t be out of reach. The Tigers are well rested and ready to go out and play football.
Southern Miss Will Win If:
The Golden Eagles could pull the upset off if they can have an almost perfect game offensively. The Tigers defense has been showing up more as of late, putting pressure on quarterbacks like Drew Lock and making them have to try other ways than passing to get points on the board.
