EUNICE, La. – While being ranked number one in the polls is certainly nothing new to LSU Eunice Baseball, this week’s NJCAA weekly rankings presented a new milestone in the storied history of Bengals baseball. In its first season of play at the NJCAA Division I level, LSUE has claimed the top spot in the organization’s rankings.
The NJCAA released its weekly rankings on Monday afternoon.
The Bengals (34-1) claimed the top spot after ascending to number two, two weeks ago. LSUE received nine of the ten first place votes. The number one ranking comes after the Bengals won all four games last week. LSUE upended South Arkansas at home before a weekend series sweep at Nunez CC.
The NJCAA Division I top five consists of LSUE, Blinn College, Cowley County CC, Weatherford College and Shelton State CC. The Bengals are the lone Region 23 representative in the rankings, while Shelton State is in LSUE’s South District.
From 2018-2024, LSU Eunice was a mainstay atop the NJCAA Division II rankings, topping the chart in 48 of 73 regular season polls taken. Under Jeff Willis, LSU Eunice has spent at least one week ranked as the number one team in the nation 18 of his 23 seasons on the Cajun Prairie.
LSUE continues its 12-game road trip with a Tuesday doubleheader at Centenary College. The two games will kick off at 3:00PM from Shehee Stadium. LSUE is at Delgado CC next weekend for the resumption of LCCAC play.
