The LSU Tigers have all the potential in the world to make it to Atlanta and possibly getting into the College Football Playoff this season. But there’s one game that could be the difference between Atlanta and a lower-level bowl game. LSU’s must win game in 2016 is Alabama.
It’s obvious that this is a must-win game. LSU hasn’t beaten Alabama in the last five meetings between the two. This is a game that has caused many LSU fans to pull their hair out and call for Les Miles’ job. Last season, he narrowly avoided being fired after a big win over Texas A&M at the end of the regular season. If Les Miles can’t get the job done, the same process will happen like it did in 2015.
But this is the best year for LSU to try and beat the Crimson Tide. They are returning a ton of talent, especially on defense which was a big reason why they failed against Bama last season. This defense could be notorious with the new defensive scheme under Dave Aranda and experienced players like Tre’Davious White and Greg Gilmore leading the way. Alabama has been in constant rotation with their quarterback the last few seasons and this season is no different with Cooper Bateman under the helm for 2016. LSU has that experienced quarterback in Brandon Harris that could hopefully mean he is coming into this season as more mature. They also have the monster known as Leonard Fournette.
The goal for LSU in 2016 is fairly simple: beat Alabama, get to Atlanta, and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. Once one happens, the other goals should begin to fall into place. The Alabama game is that domino that can change the course of the season.
