Even though they may have waited a few extra days, multiple LSU stars heard their names called on the final day of the NFL Draft.
It was a long wait, but Garrett Nussmeier was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round (249th overall pick).
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound quarterback spent five years at LSU, and served as the starter for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. In 40 games (23 starts), completed 660-of-1032 passes for 7,699 yards, 53 TD, and 24 interceptions. He is only the third 7,000-yard passer in Tigers history, and ranks second in passing attempts (1,032) and completions (660), third in passing yards (7.699) and completion percentage (63.9), and tied for fourth in passing TDs (52).
Nussmeier, whose dad Doug played in the NFL and is currently the quarterback coach of the New Orleans Saints, battled through injuries this past season but ended strong by earning MVP honors at the Panini Senior Bowl in Mobile.
LSU pass rusher Harold Perkins Jr. was also selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round (215th overall pick).
The 6-foot-1, 222-pound linebacker had a sensational freshman season in which he earned All-America honors after recording 72 tackles and leading the Tigers in tackles for loss (13.0) and sacks (7.5). Even though he did not reach that level of dominance in the years after, Perkins still managed to earn second-team All-SEC honors in 2024 and third-team honors in 2025.
For his career, Perkins played in 43 games (36 starts), recorded 220 tackles, 35.5 tackles for a loss, and 17 sacks.
Also getting taken on the draft’s final day was wide receiver Barion Brown. Brown went to the Saints with the 190th overall selection, going ninth in the sixth round. In his final collegiate season, Brown had 532 receiving yards with a touchdown. He spent his first three years at Kentucky.
A few selections before Brown, it was tight end Bauer Sharp going to the Buccaneers 185th overall. Sharp also spent just one season with LSU, catching 24 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns. He began his college career playing for Southeastern Louisiana, then played one year for Oklahoma prior to his time at LSU.
