Once Naz Reid and Tremont Waters declared for the NBA Draft, everyone thought that Naz would be picked first.
However, it was Waters that was picked before Reid with the 51st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. The New Haven, Connecticut native averaged 15.3 points per game in his sophomore season and was named the 2018-19 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Waters is the first Tiger to get drafted by an NBA team since 2016 when Ben Simmons was selected back in 2016 with the first pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. He is also the third former LSU player to be a part of the Celtics organization with Glen Davis being traded to Boston in 2007 and Jordan Mickey drafted early in the second round.
