The LSU Tigers season may have ended a couple of weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean the end of the season accolades just stops coming in. In fact, another star player received some honors on Wednesday night from the ABCA
Zach Watson was named as one of three outfielders on the 2019 American Baseball Coaches Association Gold Glove team for NCAA Division I on Wednesday night. The junior centerfielder was voted to the team for the second straight season and is the fourth LSU player to receive a Gold Glove award.
Catcher Micah Gibbs (2009), shortstop Alex Bregman and centerfielder Andrew Stevenson (2015) were the other honorees.
Watson is coming off of a phenomenal season out in center field, committing only one error in 143 chances this season. The Ruston product batted .308 with 17 doubles, seven home runs, and 42 RBIs.
Watson was selected in the third round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft earlier this month by the Baltimore Orioles just as day two began.
The first ABCA Gold Glove teams were recognized in 2007, making this the 13th season that the Gold Glove Awards have been presented.
Amongst the other players selected for this year’s Gold Glove team include a pair of student-athletes from Louisiana programs in McNeese State’s third baseman Carson Maxwell and UNO’s second baseman Salo Iza.
