The McNeese Cowboys signed a total of 22 players on National Signing Day on Wednesday.
The first class for first-year coach Gary Goff included six offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, three linebackers, five defensive backs, two running backs, a quarterback, tight end and kicker.
A dozen of the signees hail from Louisiana, with four from Florida, three coming from neighboring Texas and one each from Mississippi, Georgia and Colorado.
The four offensive linemen signed Wednesday brings the recruiting cycle’s total to six and the six signees averaged 6-foot-5, 305 pounds.
The largest is Austin Cowart (South Sumter High School in Webster, Florida) who stands 6-5 and weighs 335. Hayes Creel (St. Paul’s), is 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds. Greg Knox III is 6-6, 305 and was highly recruited by all Southland Conference schools, and after narrowing his list to three, chose McNeese over Southeastern and Grambling.
Jayden Davis is a 6-4, 280-pound lineman who played tackle for West Brook High in Beaumont, while Richard Leclair transferred from Valdosta State where the 6-3, 297-pounder helped the Blazers to the Division II title game.
The Cowboys also signed local product 6-foot-5, 295-pound Jayln Easton from Lake Charles College Prep back in the early signing period in December.
McNeese also picked up five transfers during the mid-year period – quarterback Knox Kadum (Virginia Tech), defensive back Jermaine McMillian (Central Florida), defensive back Tyler Barnes (Southern Miss), offensive lineman Richard Leclair (Valdosta State), and kicker C.J. Moya (Hutchinson Community College).
